Iraqi & Syrian Refugee Relief

THE FUTURE OF MILLIONS HANGS IN THE BALANCE

Since the spring of 2011, ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) has seized control of large portions of the two Eastern nations with unstoppable force, extreme brutality, and merciless tactics against religious and ethnic minorities.

The fallout has been devastating, both on a humanitarian and spiritual level: Today, millions of refugees lack access to the most basic necessities needed for daily survival as well as the tools and empowerment to navigate the uncertain weeks, months, and years ahead.

Without an immediate and continuous outpouring of assistance, thousands remaintrapped between life and death, opportunityand devastation, hope and despair.

OUR RESPONSE

World Help has been working extensively in war-torn communities in the region since the conflict erupted in 2011. Our approach has been to collaborate with established international partners to provide emergency aid and medical care for thousands in need.

Going forward, our vision is to continue this crucial humanitarian response while expandingto provide additional long-term support and sustainability. The strategy is threefold:

RESCUE

Christians who are being persecuted

As ISIS continues to overtake villages and cities, the mass exodus of refugees has only escalated in recent months. Our strategically positioned emergency teams continue to work around the clock to provide crucial supplies—staple food items, clean water, mattresses, medicine, cook stoves, heaters, clothing, and more—to families in desperate need.

RESTORE

Refugees who have been displaced

With no end to the conflict in sight, the long-term effects of the crisis are starting to become overwhelmingly clear. Emotional and psychological trauma, joblessness, educational gaps, and an extreme lack in spiritual resources have left many refugees with very little hope for the future. Phase 2 is our response to these important needs investing in sustainable support systems including refugee schools, summer programs, educational assistance, spiritual development and counseling resources, a church building, and sustainable job opportunities for refugee families.

REBUILD

The lives of refugees, helping them to establish new communities.

The greatest desire consistently expressed by the refugees we serve is simply to return to their homes and begin again. As conflict rages on in the region, we have no way of knowing when this will be possible. Still, our vision and prayer is to work alongside local leaders and in-country partners to actively assist with the process of relocating refugees to long-term living situations either in their original communities or in newly developed areas able to provide safety, sustainability, and economic opportunity.
