World Help was started in 1991 out of a desire to continue this vision. Through centering our mission on bringing physical help and spiritual transformation, we believe God will do the impossible for millions of impoverished, desperate people on every corner of the world.

It’s estimated that globally more than 800 million people suffer from hunger and malnutrition — and, distressingly, their numbers have been increasing. And in East Africa, in particular, the hunger crisis is escalating at an alarming rate, due to regional conflict and catastrophic drought. There has been an influx of over a million desperate refugees to underdeveloped Northern Uganda from neighboring South Sudan. These refugees arrive in a dire state — exhausted, emaciated and on the brink of death due to starvation and injuries sustained en route. And it’s the children who are suffering most, many of whom have been orphaned by the tribal warfare.

You can help save a child from starving

The first three years are critical to a child’s growth and overall health. They are also the years when a child is most susceptible to death due to famine, drought, disease and malnutrition.

You may have seen heartbreaking photos in the news of desperate, starving refugee children with their swollen, protruding bellies and alarmingly thin limbs. Seeing them in person is much worse — their frail bodies are simply wasting away. They move more slowly than other boys and girls. They don’t have the energy to play, laugh, or explore like normal, healthy children. Looking into their eyes, they looked haunted and hopeless. They have seen unimaginable violence and destruction.

These precious, innocent children are literally dying of hunger because of evil and violence outside of their control. Those who survive often are subject to severe and chronic health issues for the rest of their lives. The future is bleak for these children. No parent would ever want this to happen to their child.
