Twenty Years Later, We Have Not Forgotten

Blog Team
Apr 07, 2014

Twenty years ago, the world watched in horror as one of the swiftest civil uprisings of our time left more than 800,000 Rwandans dead. The 1994 Rwandan genocide is now known as one of the largest preventable losses of life in recent history.

Rebuild Rwanda

Today marks the 20th anniversary of the grisly 100-day siege where majority Hutus slaughtered nearly 1 million Tutsi and moderate Hutu Rwandans. Men, women, and children were massacred . . . their corpses draped for miles on end across the Rwandan countryside.

World Help is doing our part in saying “never again” to genocide.

Rebuild Rwanda - World Help

With help from compassionate supporters, we have spent more than a decade working toward the sustainable health of Rwandans through programs like orphan care, trauma counseling, child development, construction projects, clean-water wells, agriculture, vocational training, and more.

Millions of Rwandans have overcome the unthinkable—it is a nation praised for its model of reconciliation—however, every day is a fight for healing for those left behind. We must never forget those who were lost . . . but more important, we cannot forget those who survived.

On the 20th anniversary of Rwanda’s greatest atrocity, we invite you to participate in our 100 days of Rebuilding Rwanda. We ask that you join us in three ways:

  1. Pray for continued healing . . . for a Rwanda that is more united in hope than ever before.
  2. Share about Rebuilding Rwanda through your online networks.
  3. Give to support sustainable projects in communities still recovering from genocide.

Over the next 100 days, we’ll be telling stories from Rwanda that deserve to be heard. You won’t want to miss any of these inspiring accounts. Please subscribe to our blog to get these updates sent straight to your inbox.
