FOREST, Va. (WSET) — As families continue to flee Ukraine, an organization based out of Forest, Virginia is working to help.
World Help teams up with international partners who are on the ground in Ukraine operating a refugee transit center.
Kraig Cole, Director of International Partnerships with World Help, said he was just there for about a week to help those in need.
He flew into Poland and was only in Ukraine for 48 hours.
“And as soon as we got into Ukraine, I mean, you can just feel the tension, you can see such a heartbreaking scene,” Cole said.
Cole said transit centers like the one he was at serve as a place for refugees to eat, sleep and shower before they leave.
He said that donations help run these centers.
Cole said that money will go toward the hot meals, blankets and even warm coats.
For just $35, that will fund one refugee for a week.
