Veeda, whose name was changed to protect her identity, worked for eight years in a salon.
She found joy and fulfillment in her career. As the sole provider for her family, Veeda was grateful that she could pursue her dream and use the income she earned to care for her elderly mother.
But everything changed when the Taliban permanently closed Veeda’s shop.
“I loved my profession; it allowed me to support my mother and interact with customers. However, we can no longer continue our work. Even operating from home is not an option, as the Taliban’s secret service would arrest us,” Veeda said.
Today, Veeda lives in fear of what the future holds. She wonders how she will buy the food and medicine her mother needs without a job. And Veeda worries they won’t survive the upcoming winter because she can’t afford firewood or warm clothing.
