As you read this, thousands of people are struggling in the wake of Hurricane Laura.
Families along the coasts of Louisiana and Texas woke up this morning to massive flooding, debris, and devastation after the Category 4 storm made landfall with more than 150 mph winds — making it the strongest recorded hurricane to hit this region since 1856!
Although the storm has weakened as it’s moved inland, catastrophic storm surge continues to threaten the coastline. Some areas could see up to 15 to 20 feet of water as the tide rises.
“There will be parts of Lake Charles underwater that no living human being has ever seen before,” the governor of Louisiana said in an interview.
Hundreds of thousands of people are without power. Some have already lost their homes.
Our partners on the ground will begin assessing the damage as soon as possible. But one thing is already clear: many families will need basic necessities like food, clean water, and hygiene kits as they attempt to pick up the pieces of their lives.
Here’s how you can help the people affected by Hurricane Laura:
• People are scared. This year has already been devastating for so many families. Now this. Please stop whatever you’re doing and pray for those suffering from this latest crisis.
• Give. Initial reports reveal the destruction is overwhelming and widespread. Soon, we will know what the greatest needs are. And your gift right now means those critical supplies will be sent without delay to the people who need them most.
Please do something to help today. Your involvement during this critical time will remind the victims of this tragedy they are not alone.
