“As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.” – Isaiah 55:10-11 (NIV)
In Christians circles we talk about planting seeds. We also talk about how we may never see the fruit of our labors from the seeds we plant — not in this life anyway.
But, as it says in Isaiah, God’s Word never returns void. Even if it takes a little bit longer than we expect, the Scriptures will always touch hearts.
And that’s what happened with Isabel.
Since Isabel lives in Cuba, we’re changing her name to protect her identity.
Ten years ago, Isabel was riding a bus when a Cuban church planter began a conversation with her about Jesus. Before they parted ways, he handed her a Bible.
But Isabel didn’t come to know the Lord that day … or for more than 3,000 days after that. For whatever reason, she didn’t respond.
Then one day, she finally did.
It was last year during the pandemic, and like so many other people, Isabel was looking for hope.
God knew her heart, and in His divine providence, brought the same church planter she had met 10 years ago across her path again.
Isabel immediately recognized him and couldn’t wait to show him the Bible he had given her a decade before.
They began talking about what the words inside that Book really meant, and Isabel soon accepted Christ and was baptized!
She had found the hope she was looking for.
Even if you don’t see the results of your giving in this lifetime, God is using you to touch people’s lives and meet their needs just like He did for Isabel.
