Rebuilding Rwanda | 30 Years After Genocide
Thirty years ago, we saw the most gruesome civilian uprising of our time — the Rwandan genocide. Ethnic tensions between the Hutu and Tutsi ethnic groups had reached a breaking point by early 1994, and April 7 marked the beginning of the 100-day period that claimed the lives of more than 800,000 Rwandans in one of the most horrific massacres of our day.
Over the past three decades, local churches and organizations like World Help have worked together to bring healing and restoration to Rwanda. The wounds are still deep, but Rwandans have refused to be defined by this tragic history and have managed to turn the page and move forward from grief. But today, there is still a need for trauma counseling, vocational training, food, clean water, and more. And these resources are critically needed by many others worldwide as well.
