Back to School: Building the Future by Investing in Education

Back to school in UgandaIt’s that time of year again . . .

School-age children and parents everywhere are visiting classrooms, buying notebooks and backpacks, and anticipating another exciting and eventful year . . . it’s time to go back to school!

While most of us have the luxury of affording basic supplies, fees, and uniforms that allow our children to attend school, nearly 70 million children around the world do not have the opportunity to receive an education. And without education, generations of children are added to the cycle of poverty with little hope for the future.

But the good news is . . . we can do something to change this. World Help sponsors are already kicking off the new school year strong by sending notes of encouragement to the children they sponsor, building the connection that is so vital for children to succeed. But you don’t have to be a current sponsor to get involved. Giving children in impoverished communities the opportunity to receive an education is not just an idea we should be striving for . . . it’s a strategy that works. The ripple effect that education has on both an individual child and their community is undeniable.

Did you know that there would be a 12 percent drop in global poverty if children from poverty-stricken areas simply had the ability to read? Just think . . . mastering this basic skill can put a child on the path out of poverty . . . changing a life forever.

And the potential skyrockets when it comes to investing in the education of girls. Tragically viewed as second-class citizens in many places around the world, girls have been overlooked, mistreated, enslaved, and underestimated.

Back to school in HondurasThe truth is, women and girls who are treated properly are the key to healthy and flourishing families, communities, and economies. Educated females are three times less likely to contract HIV/AIDS, and they grow up to be women who, on average, reinvest 90 percent of their income back into their families!

World Help strongly believes in empowering the next generation of young people—boys and girls—helping them understand their value to God and the remarkable potential they have to make a difference in our world.

This school year, consider making a life-changing investment in a child’s future by sending a special Back-to-School gift. These additional funds will be used to provide extra school supplies, fund the cost of teachers and staff, and cover any educational activities for children currently in the World Help Sponsorship Program.

If you are currently a sponsor, your gift will benefit the program in which your sponsored child is already participating. What an incredible opportunity to show your sponsored child that you are thinking of them as they enter the new school year! Don’t miss out on sending this powerful and encouraging reminder to your child.

So, while you’re busy prepping for the upcoming year—whether as a student or a supporter—remember there are millions of children around the world who dream of doing the same.

Give a gift today that will help build their futures . . . giving hope for generations to come.
