Burundi is one of the poorest countries in the world, with over one million people facing extreme hunger. Most of the population lives in rural areas and relies on agriculture to make a living, and many families are still healing from the acts of genocide that took place in 1993.
Unfortunately, with the constant risk of natural disasters like floods, Burundi’s food supply can’t sustain the entire country. Countless children suffer from stunted growth caused by chronic malnutrition. In addition, most families can’t afford to send them to school. Without an education, many boys and girls are unable to break the cycle of poverty.
