Almost 60 percent of Hondurans live in poverty, and the majority of rural families live on less than $2 a day. While the economy is steadily developing, the country still suffers from income inequality and high unemployment rates.
Many Hondurans don’t have access to quality healthcare and nutritious meals. Food contamination and waterborne illnesses remain high, especially in rural areas. Education is a top priority for many families, but public schools are overcrowded and understaffed. Many children drop out after sixth grade.
