Maternal Health Care In Africa
Learn MoreEvery mother deserves dignity, health, and hope. But in rural Ethiopia, many women endure unimaginable suffering during childbirth. When labor becomes obstructed and emergency care isn’t available, the baby often does not survive — and the mother is left with severe internal damage called obstetric fistula.
Fistula leaves women incontinent, isolated, and often abandoned by their families and communities. Many are seen as “cursed” and live in shame and despair … with no access to medical care or support.
But you can help change that.
When you give, you’ll help women in Ethiopia receive holistic care, such as:
• Specialized maternal care training to become Safe Motherhood Ambassadors, helping other fistula survivors and educating their communities about fistula to remove the stigma and prevent future cases by encouraging women to seek by prenatal care
• Rehabilitation through spiritual counseling, trauma care, and personalized plans that restore dignity and help women rejoin community life
• Vocational training, entrepreneurship classes, and grants that equip women to provide for themselves — whether raising livestock, running a café, or starting a market business
The average cost to fully sponsor a mother through this healing process is $1,375 — but any amount you give will make a difference because each Ambassador goes on to impact around 90 people in her community. That means it costs just $16 to impact a life with education and access to care.
