How To Pray for People Affected by the Earthquakes in Venezuela

When disaster strikes, it’s easy to feel helpless.

The devastating earthquakes that recently shook Venezuela have left thousands of families grieving, searching for loved ones, and trying to rebuild after losing everything.

Homes have collapsed, communities have been devastated, and countless people are wondering what tomorrow will bring. Rescue efforts are still underway as relief organizations and local churches work around the clock to meet urgent needs.

As followers of Christ, one of the most powerful things we can do is pray.

Scripture reminds us to “carry each other’s burdens” (Galatians 6:2). Even from thousands of miles away, we can stand with the people of Venezuela by lifting them up before the Lord.

Here are five specific ways you can pray for everyone affected by the earthquakes.

1. Pray for families who have lost loved ones

For many families, life changed forever in just a matter of seconds.

Parents have lost children. Children have lost parents. And entire families are grieving unimaginable loss.

Pray that God would draw near to those who are mourning and surround them with His peace and comfort. Ask Him to provide strength for each new day and to remind hurting families that He is “close to the brokenhearted” (Psalm 34:18).

Pray also for churches, neighbors, and communities to faithfully care for those who are grieving in the difficult days ahead.

2. Pray for those still waiting to learn the fate of missing relatives

While many families are mourning, others are living with heartbreaking uncertainty.

Across the hardest-hit areas, loved ones continue searching for missing family members as rescue crews work through damaged buildings and unstable rubble. Each passing hour brings both hope and heartache.

Pray that those who are still missing would be found quickly. Ask God to sustain families through the waiting and to give them courage and peace.

Pray, too, that they would experience God’s presence in a tangible way during this incredibly difficult season.

3. Pray for rescue workers and relief teams as they continue their work

Search-and-rescue teams, medical workers, volunteers, and humanitarian organizations have been working tirelessly since the earthquakes struck.

Many are operating in dangerous conditions while damaged buildings remain unstable. The work is physically exhausting and emotionally draining.

Pray that God would protect everyone serving on the front lines.

Ask Him to give rescue workers endurance, wisdom, and discernment as they make difficult decisions. Pray that relief teams would have the resources they need to provide food, clean water, emergency shelter, medical care, and other lifesaving assistance to survivors.

4. Pray for wisdom, strength, and protection for World Help’s partners

World Help’s trusted partners in Venezuela began responding almost immediately after the earthquakes, delivering emergency aid, preparing meals, helping recover victims, and caring for families whose lives have been turned upside down.

But their work is far from over.

Pray that God would continue to give them wisdom as they identify the greatest needs, strength as they serve long hours, and protection as they travel into damaged communities.

Ask the Lord to multiply their efforts so they can reach as many people as possible with both practical help and the eternal hope found in Christ.

5. Pray that God would use the Church to bring hope during this heartbreaking time

Natural disasters often leave people asking difficult questions.

In moments like these, the local church has a unique opportunity to demonstrate the love of Jesus in both word and deed.

Pray that churches across Venezuela would be places of refuge, compassion, and hope. Ask God to strengthen pastors and ministry leaders as they care for hurting families.

Pray that many people would experience Christ’s love through the kindness, generosity, and faithful service of His people — and that even in the midst of tragedy, lives would be transformed by the hope of the Gospel.

How You Can Help Earthquake Survivors in Venezuela

Your prayers truly do matter so much.

They encourage those serving on the front lines and remind us that God is at work even in the darkest moments.

If you are looking for additional ways you can help, you can also give a financial gift to provide emergency relief to families affected by the earthquakes.

Every $50 provides disaster relief for one earthquake survivor — delivering essentials like emergency food, clean water, first-aid supplies, and other critical items.

Together, through prayer and generosity, we can remind the people of Venezuela that they are loved and not forgotten.
