How to pray for your sponsored child

Have you ever struggled to pray for your sponsored child? You know you should, but praying for someone you’ve never met and have little in common with can be difficult. If you need some inspiration, try thinking about your sponsored child in a new way.

Why not pray for him or her the same way you would for your own child or for a friend? Chances are, your sponsored child has many of the same needs!

How would you pray for your own child?

If you have children, praying for them is probably second nature. You’re with them so much that you know what they need. You probably pray they will have …

• Health and strength

• Success in school

• Supportive, kind friends

• Christian influences

These are all things you can pray for your sponsored child, as well!

After all, every child — no matter what country he is from — wants to be healthy, happy and loved.

How would you pray for a friend?

You probably pray for your friends on a regular basis, too. They are important to you, so praying for them comes naturally. Here are a few common prayers for a friend that also work for your sponsored child:

• Comfort in hard times

• Confidence

• The ability to reach his goals

• Peaceful environment

It’s easy to feel out of touch with your sponsored child, but praying specific prayers for him or her is a good way to solve that problem.

The most important thing to remember as you pray is that your sponsored child is loved by God. Your support means the two of you have a special bond, and your prayers are a huge encouragement to your child.

Hopefully, these tips will help you pray more effectively for your sponsored child. If you have other suggestions you like to use, we’d love for you to share them on our Facebook page!
