Sending Packages to Your Sponsored Child

World Help receives an abundance of letters and gifts from sponsors every day to send to their sponsored children around the world. These children are overcome with excitement when they receive their packages. For some, a gift from their sponsor may be the first gift they’ve ever received.

If you’re wondering how you can be a blessing to your sponsored child, consider sending a small gift. It’s an effective way to connect with your child and make them feel special!

Sponsors may send up to one package per month. We recommend sending small items such as writing utensils, card games, small books and Bibles, stickers, postcards, hard candies, coloring pages, crayons, colored pencils, and markers. You may also send travel-sized toiletries for your sponsored child or small clothing articles, like pairs of socks.

No matter what your gift looks like, ultimately, it’s an investment that brings a whole new level of enrichment to a child.

“One of our sponsors often travels around the world. She manages to send themed packages, including a gift from her travels,” said our Correspondence Coordinator Laura Cole. “When she traveled to Japan, she sent her sponsored child some Japanese sweets and a postcard.”

Children also love receiving pictures of their sponsors. Consider creating a special gift by designing a small picture album that includes photos of your family, places you’ve traveled, or your pets.

After my husband and I received a biography of our newly sponsored child, Dieunie-Love, we discovered that she loved art. With our next letter, we included colored pencils and coloring pages for her to enjoy. Ask what your sponsored child likes to do, and send gifts that correspond with their interests.

Because of various mailing and customs regulations, there are a few guidelines we ask you to follow when sending gifts to your sponsored child. First, please make sure all items fit easily in a 6×9 envelope.

We also ask that you avoid sending items such as chocolate or other perishables, scissors and sharp items, nail polish, cosmetics, electronics, and jewelry. And because we cannot ensure that every item will pass through customs, please refrain from sending anything expensive or valuable.

For the protection of the children, our Child Sponsorship Department does not send money directly to any child. However, if you wish to send an additional monetary gift for your child’s program, you may call a Sponsor Relations Coordinator toll free at 800-541-6691, or mail in your donation.

By sending small gifts, you show your sponsored child how much he or she is truly loved and valued. World Help would like to thank you on behalf of the children who are receiving help for today . . . and hope for tomorrow. Every aspect of your sponsorship helps to make an eternal difference in their lives.
