Stocking up on summer supplies? Shop AmazonSmile and help save lives!

Amazon is a person in quarantine’s best friend … especially when you’re dying for a little summer entertainment.

My latest purchase from Amazon was a package of 200 water balloons. Since so many places are still closed due to social distancing, I thought it would be fun for my husband and I to have a friendly water balloon fight in the backyard after work. And, thanks to AmazonSmile, my water balloon purchase helped rescue someone living in poverty!

Your Amazon purchases can help save lives too — whether you’re stocking up on toilet paper and cleaning supplies, buying toys to keep the kids occupied, or picking out a book for your next summer read. All you have to do is shop AmazonSmile and select World Help as your charity.

AmazonSmile is the same online superstore you know and love. The only difference is Amazon will donate 0.5 percent of all your eligible purchases to the charity of your choice, at no cost to you.

And those pennies add up fast! World Help has already received thousands of dollars — enough to help rescue hundreds of men, women, and children — simply from people shopping on Amazon.

When you select World Help as your AmazonSmile charity, the donations generated from your purchases will be used to help where needed most … like providing food, medical help, other essentials, and spiritual hope to people struggling to survive this global pandemic.

Here’s how to get started:

• Visit amazon.com and sign in to your Amazon account

• You will be prompted to select a charity

• Type “World Help” in the search bar

If you’ve already signed up, you can switch your charity to World Help by following these steps:

• Visit amazon.com and sign in to your Amazon account

• Click “Your Amazon Smile” from the “Your Account” drop menu

• Click “Change Charity” and search for World Help

IMPORTANT: Be sure you use smile.amazon.com instead of the regular amazon.com every time you shop on a desktop or laptop computer. If you are shopping from the Amazon mobile app, follow these steps to turn on AmazonSmile:

• Click the menu button in the app and select “Settings”

• Choose “AmazonSmile” from the settings menu

• Click the “Turn on AmazonSmile” button

This summer will probably be a little different from the usual months of fun in the sun.

Because of the coronavirus, you may have had to cancel your vacation. But you can still have fun at home. And when you stock up on supplies for your at-home fun on AmazonSmile, you can also impact people around the globe!

Buy a couple of board games, crafting supplies, a movie you and your spouse have been dying to watch, or maybe even a slip-and-slide for the kids. Then, while you’re doing a puzzle with your kids or pelting your husband with water balloons, you can know that your 2020 summer memories are helping to save lives.
