Over 25 million people in the Philippines stood in the path of super typhoon Haiyan, possibly the largest, most powerful cyclone ever to hit the tiny island group.

The category 5 super cyclone made landfall yesterday, unleashing winds topping 200 mph and leaving a wide trail of astonishing destruction.

Our 13 in-country sponsorship programs were prepared for the worst as the storm approached and we are happy to report that they remain unharmed. Currently, our relief teams are operating on high alert, assessing damage, and concentrating their efforts on the areas hardest hit.

As predicted by authorities, unprecedented damage followed Haiyan throughout countless coastal villages and even inland.
