Valia: “Without the center, we would have so much hardship”

Let’s be honest; you’ve heard stories like the one I’m about to tell.

Since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine almost two years ago, World Help has shared many testimonies of refugees and displaced people who have lost everything.

Each story should be a call to action — an opportunity to share the love of Christ in Ukraine. But instead of feeling motivated to help, we are becoming desensitized to the urgent needs of Ukrainians who are still affected by the war today.

So, before you continue, I urge you to pause. Posture your heart after the Lord, who is close to the brokenhearted and crushed in spirit.

Allow me to introduce you to Valia.

Watch this short video to hear Valia’s story:

Valia and her husband are originally from Kharkiv. It was there that they put down roots and began their family. But that all changed on Feb. 24, 2022, when they woke to the sounds of missiles dropping. The couple fled to a bomb shelter with their 10-month-old son, hoping to wait out the fighting.

After eight days in hiding, Valia realized no end was in sight. So, the family of three made the dangerous journey to a train station. They took a train to Lviv before ultimately settling down in Ternopil.

Can you imagine?

Valia and her husband left behind all they’d ever known … their home, jobs, friends, and family. They were utterly alone in a new city with their first child.

They say it takes a village to raise a family — and Valia felt the loss of her hometown as she tried to care for her son. For months, her husband struggled to find work. With no income, Valia struggled to both find and afford basic necessities for her family.

Thankfully, they finally found our partner’s center serving displaced Ukrainians. There, Valia received emergency supplies like food, diapers, shelter, and more.

“Without the center, we would have so much hardship,” Valia said. “We would need to buy food and supplies that we now get each month. That helps a lot.”

But the need doesn’t end here. Valia depends on the center for aid today just as much as she did two years ago … and she’s not the only one in need of help and hope this winter.

People all around the world are desperately waiting for someone like YOU to help. Whether they’ve been impacted by war, poverty, a natural disaster, or another hardship, many of their needs are the same — they need supplies like food, water, coats, boots, blankets, God’s Word, and other essentials to help them survive the coldest months of the year.

But time is running out. Will you be a lifeline to someone struggling to survive this winter before it’s too late?

Every $24 you give will provide emergency supplies like food, clothing, medical equipment, God’s Word, and more to two people in need.
