VIDEO: Church in Ukraine transforms into a clothing bank

Traveling usually comes with at least a day or two of preparation. You book the hotel, make dining reservations, and most importantly, pack a suitcase filled with everything you’ll need for the trip.

Ukrainian refugees didn’t have the opportunity to do any of those things when their country was attacked. They just knew they needed to get to safety as soon as possible.

By the time they reach our partner’s refugee center, many have spent days walking, running, and driving in the same clothes. So with support from donors, our partners have transformed a nearby church into a clothing bank.

Watch the video below to see the refugee clothing bank:

A fresh change of clothes can make a struggling refugee feel like a new person and give them the hope they need to go on.

So the staff at the clothing bank distribute clothes to refugees traveling to the border as well as to the territorial army fighting to defend the country. They also help supply hospitals treating injured Ukrainian citizens and soldiers with things like towels and sheets.

The work can be exhausting, the staff said. They spend all day organizing clothes, helping refugees find what they need, driving, making deliveries. Then they go home, fall asleep, and wake up to do it all again the next day.

It’s worth it though because of all of the people they’ve been able to impact.

But there’s still a huge need for more help.

Warm clothing is one of the biggest needs of Ukrainian refugees. Temperatures are often still below freezing this time of year in Ukraine, and snow isn’t uncommon. Our partners say that some of their most-requested items are socks, long underwear, coats, and other winter wear.

And Ukrainian refugees don’t just need clothes. They also need food, medical care, and a safe place to sleep. For just $35, you can provide a week’s worth of essentials like these to a refugee in Ukraine or another high-conflict area.

Your gift will be an answer to prayer for someone who left everything behind and is now traveling with nothing.

When you provide a displaced person with a warm plate of food, a change of clothes, or a mattress to sleep on, they will finally be able to take a moment to rest and recover their strength.

All it takes is $35 to make sure a refugee’s needs are met. But it doesn’t stop there. When you give, you also reflect the love of Christ to someone in desperate need of hope.
