Give water. Give life.

Today, a mother in Uganda will have to spend hours collecting water instead of working to provide for her family. A boy in Honduras will miss another day of school because he is sick from drinking dirty water. And a little girl in India will lose her fight with a life-threatening disease caused by waterborne bacteria.

Water is one of our most basic needs — yet many families around the world don’t have access to it.

But for just $15, you can give one person clean water for an entire year.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many people lack access to clean water?
It is estimated that one in 10 people lack access to clean water. The U.N. expects that if individuals and governments don’t take action to stop this global water crisis, the number of people experiencing water stress could increase to 2 billion people by 2050.

Why are some places without clean water?
There are a number of reasons, but the primary reason is poverty. Impoverished families can’t afford to purchase water, and struggling governments can’t pay for adequate water and sanitation infrastructure. In some countries where certain social groups or religions face discrimination, communities bar those individuals from using local wells.

Why are women and girls particularly affected by the lack of clean water?
The burden of collecting water often falls on women and girls. In fact, the U.N. estimates that women in Africa alone spend more than 40 billion hours collecting water each year. Girls who spend much of their time fetching water often fall behind in school and must drop out. Lack of clean water and sanitation also puts mothers at risk during childbirth.

How does my donation provide clean water?
Your gift will help build and maintain wells or clean-water projects in impoverished villages. The type of well or project is determined by the needs of the community. Some areas need a shallow well while others require a deep-bore well. In mountainous regions, water is often piped into a community rather than digging a well.
