If you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry, and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday.
— Isaiah 58:10
Meet Susan. After a brutal civil war broke out in South Sudan, Susan and her sister fled to Uganda. They were all alone — their mother died years earlier, and their father was killed at the beginning of the war. When they arrived in Uganda, they were malnourished and traumatized. They had no idea where their next meal would come from or if they’d even survive the coming days.
Meet Dipper. With no family to care for him, Dipper lived as an orphan in a remote Nicaraguan community. He spent his days searching for food and his nights sleeping in churches or open fields. Often, Dipper went days without a meal and had to survive on what little food his neighbors could afford to give him.
Meet Zabiullah. After the Taliban took over Afghanistan, 10-year-old Zabiullah and his family were pushed into debilitating poverty. Instead of going to school, he worked every day to help put food on the table. Sadly, he earned less than one dollar a day for his efforts. As a result, Zabiullah and his family often went to bed hungry.
Will you pray for children who are suffering from malnutrition and starvation?
Children around the world like Susan, Dipper, and Zabuillah are starving. Their situations may be unique, but they all need one thing: food. The solution seems simple, but as prices continue to rise and more families are pushed into poverty, nutritious meals have become a luxury for many boys and girls.
Christ-followers have a responsibility to care and pray for those who are hurting and in need. But this holiday season, impoverished children are suffering and feel as if they’ve been forgotten. Many aren’t sure if they’ll make it through the coming months.
In the days leading up to Christmas, will you join us in praying for starving children around the world? We’re sharing 20 prayers for boys and girls who are going hungry. Please take a moment each day to pray and share these requests with friends and family.
