Nothing says the end of summer and the beginning of fall quite like a field of sunflowers. So why not send your sponsored child a gorgeous sunflower through the mail?
It’s easy to do! Gather your family around and work together to make this craft you can personalize and mail to your sponsored child.
Step 1: Gather your supplies
For this craft you’ll need construction paper, a pen or pencil, scissors, crayons or markers, and glue. (I used white paper for the center of my sunflower, and I colored it brown. But you can use brown or black paper — whatever you have handy.)
Step 2: Trace and cut out your handprints
On your yellow paper, trace your hand (or your child’s or grandchild’s hand) four to five times. Cut out the handprints and set them aside.
Another idea for your craft is to get the whole family involved. You can use as many different hands as you want to make a layered and unique flower. Also, your sponsored child will love seeing your whole family’s handprints in their flower.
Step 3: Make your sunflower’s center
Fold your brown or white paper in half. Then trace a circle as close to the folded edge as possible so that when it’s cut your circle can open up like a door. Cut out the circle. If you’re using white paper, color it brown and add black dots to look like the center of a sunflower.
Step 4: Personalize your sunflower
Inside your circle, feel free to write a message to your sponsored child so they can know that you’re thinking of them. Or, if you need more room for your whole family to sign, go ahead and write your names on the flower petals. Include your sponsored child’s name, too! They’ll love to know they’re considered part of your family!
Step 5: Assemble and glue
With your green paper, cut out a stem and a leaf. Now you’re ready to glue all your pieces together. Assemble your yellow hands into a circle, laying them out so they resemble petals. Glue them all together with the sunflower’s center placed in the middle. Add the stem and leaf, and you’re done!
Then you can mail your craft in an envelope to the address below:

Your sunflower will be a creative way to keep in touch with your sponsored child. And just imagine the smile on their face when your craft arrives in the mail!
