As a sponsor, one of the most rewarding things I get to do is regularly connect with my sponsored child. I enjoy sitting down to write letters and making small gifts for her. And when I get a letter or card back, I always find a place for it on my fridge!
When you sponsor a child, you do more than just provide life-changing essentials like food, clean water, and educational opportunities. You also get the chance to build a lasting friendship with them through prayer and correspondence.
Here are four ways to connect with your sponsored child:
1. Pray for Your Sponsored Child
Make sure to ask your sponsored child how you can pray for them!
Prayer is powerful. That’s why keeping your sponsored child in your prayers is one of the most important things you can do for them.
If you’re unsure of how to pray for your sponsored child, here are some suggestions:
– Pray for their health and well-being
– Pray that they would experience God’s love in a special way
– Pray for God’s guidance in their life
– Pray for their friends and family members
As you get to know your sponsored child, you’ll learn about more specific ways you can pray for them. And make sure to keep your sponsored child in your prayers every day — the impact may be greater than you can ever imagine.
2. Write a Letter
Sending a letter every month is an excellent way to get to know your sponsored child
When you first began sponsoring your child, you received instructions on how to write to them. Regularly sending letters can help you learn more about your sponsored child and build a deeper connection with them.
Your letters will also allow your sponsored child to get to know you better. Most children keep every single letter from their sponsors as a reminder that someone loves and cares about them.
Not sure what to write? Tell your sponsored child about yourself — what your family is like, your favorite pastimes, your hobbies, and your job.
Don’t forget to ask them questions: what’s their favorite food? What subjects do they like in school? What do they want to be when they grow up?

3. Send Your Sponsored Child an Email
If you don’t have time to write a letter, sending an email is a great option!
If a busy schedule or another circumstance prevents you from physically writing a letter, you can always send an email!
Writing an email is easy and fast, and it still allows you to connect with your sponsored child. There are two ways you can send an email.
1. Send your email directly to childsponsorship@worldhelp.net. Make sure to include any photos or other attachments you’d like to send to your sponsored child. Please include your child’s name and ID number, as well as your name and donor account number.
2. Fill out our online form here. Once we receive your letter, we will be sure to forward it to your sponsored child with our next mailing. You can attach any photos or files you want to send to your sponsored child, too.
4. Send a Gift to Your Sponsored Child
Your sponsored child will cherish every gift you send them!
You can also send small gifts to your sponsored child! As with your letters, your sponsored child will treasure every gift you send them.
Shipping internationally is often difficult because of taxes and restrictions, so large or expensive gifts are not permitted. Thankfully, there are plenty of ways to get creative!
Because your gift must fit in a 6 inch by 9 inch envelope, you can include things like stickers, paper airplanes, pencils, coloring books, or postcards.
Handmade crafts also make great gifts for your sponsored child. You can make a cute bookmark or even a friendship bracelet for them! The possibilities are endless.
As a note, please do not send cash or currency of any kind. To learn more about sending a gift to your sponsored child, click here.
Connecting with your sponsored child is an incredible way to make an impact in their life and form a long-lasting relationship. Make sure to keep in touch with your sponsored child regularly — it will mean the world to them!
