Without transportation, a person’s job prospects are limited to within walking distance of his home. But a bicycle opens the door to new opportunities. Plus, bicycles can carry goods to market, transport children to school, and cut travel time in half when it matters most — like when a family member needs a doctor.
One way bicycles are helping communities is by mobilizing pastors. Before, without a bicycle, pastors would have to walk long distances to their churches or to visit congregation members. But with a bike, they can help transport the message of the Gospel quickly and efficiently.
One pastor said that in addition to helping his ministry, the bicycle he received is also vital for his family. “It makes it easier to fetch water and bring it home,” he said.
A bicycle is so much more than a means of transportation for someone living in poverty. It is a gift of hope.
