“I try to live my life in such a way that every day I try to accomplish at leastone thing that will outlive me and last for eternity.”
It all began on the dusty streets of Mexico at the age of 17. Vernon was on a youth mission trip to help construct a church building, where there was none, and to pass out Bibles to those who had never seen one, much less owned one. “Regalo . . . Gratis . . . Suyo”—free gift for you—were the words Vernon shared as he distributed Bibles. Dilapidated shacks, filthy children, garbage, open sewage, and the awful smells . . . a week of being confronted with great human need.
It is no coincidence that now, many years later, Vernon is still traveling the world, facilitating the construction of modest village church buildings and distributing “free gifts” to people who have never owned a Bible.
Little did Vernon know, as a 17-year-old young man, God was preparing him for what He wanted him to do with the rest of his life. Vernon thought it would just be a fun youth trip to another country, but God used it to change the direction of his life.
