About Vernon Brewer
It all began on the dusty streets of Mexico at the age of 17. Vernon was on a youth mission trip to help construct a church building, where there was none, and to pass out Bibles to those who had never seen one, much less owned one. “Regalo . . . Gratis . . . Suyo”—free gift for you—were the words Vernon shared as he distributed Bibles. Dilapidated shacks, filthy children, garbage, open sewage, and the awful smells . . . a week of being confronted with great human need.
It is no coincidence that now, many years later, Vernon is still traveling the world, facilitating the construction of modest village church buildings and distributing “free gifts” to people who have never owned a Bible.
Little did Vernon know, as a 17-year-old young man, God was preparing him for what He wanted him to do with the rest of his life. Vernon thought it would just be a fun youth trip to another country, but God used it to change the direction of his life.
Vernon Brewer is the founder and president of World Help, a Christian humanitarian organization uniquely qualified and strategically positioned to meet the spiritual and physical needs of hurting people around the world. World Help exists to fulfill the Great Commission and the Great Commandment through humanitarian aid, child advocacy, Bible distribution, and church planting, especially in the unreached areas of the world.
Vernon is a cancer survivor. After being diagnosed with Hodgkin’s disease, he underwent 18 surgeries and 18 months of chemotherapy. His personal testimony has been a source of encouragement to many people facing difficult situations. Yet, through this trial by fire, God has given him a renewed passion to use his life to make an eternal difference in the lives of people around the world that do not know Jesus Christ.
His inspiring story and incredible life experiences, combined with his passion for the world, make him an energetic and compassionate leader. His strategic thinking and emphasis on partnership have breathed new life into the mission world and provided innovative ways to partner together and accomplish more for the Kingdom of God.
Since its inception in 1991, World Help has touched 64 countries and impacted the lives of millions of people. Over 44,000 sponsorships have provided clothing, food, medical attention, and a Christian education for children in need. Over $400 million in humanitarian aid has been distributed to meet physical needs around the world. Nearly 9 million Bibles have been supplied, and over 74,000 churches have been planted, resulting in more than 7 million new Christ followers. World Help is also feeding 300,000 children daily through feeding programs in Central America, building homes for orphaned children in Africa, and providing clean water around the world.
