The idea of changing the world is intimidating, and sometimes we feel like we can’t do anything on our own. Sometimes, it feels like you can’t make a difference if you aren’t a celebrity with a huge platform or don’t have much disposable income. But that’s not true at all!
One person can’t solve all the world’s problems, but you can still make a global impact. And you don’t even have to get on a plane. You can start with your community.
Being a world changer in your community can mean one of two things: you can help people in need right where you are, or you can rally your community to help you make a difference worldwide! But however you choose to change the world, the most important thing to remember is that you can.
If you’re not sure where to start, here are a few things you can do to begin your journey as a world changer:
1. Raise awareness
The first step to solving a problem is recognizing that there is one. If you don’t know about it, how can you help? That’s why raising awareness is so important, and it’s something you can do from anywhere.
You can start your journey as a world changer by telling your friends and family about issues that are important to you and brainstorming ways to make a difference together. You can also share information on your social media to expand your audience.
Raising awareness helps motivate others to join you in changing the world — and while you can make an enormous impact on your own, that impact is multiplied when more people know what’s going on and how they can help!
2. Volunteer
There are plenty of ways to help change the world without giving financially — one of the best ways is to donate your time. Volunteering within your community is a fantastic way to connect with other world changers and make a difference.
If you’re local to Forest, Virginia, one place you can volunteer is the World Help warehouse. Our incredible volunteers are the ones who help pack and ship lifesaving supplies to people in need around the globe. Just one hour of your time helps impact an average of 81 people!
But if you’re not local, your community likely has dozens of other volunteer opportunities. You can help at a food pantry, a humane society, an assisted living facility, church, or even your child’s school. Volunteering is also a great way to get your family, friends, or church small group involved in serving others.
You can raise money to fight world hunger, but with no one to pack boxes of food and distribute them to families, it won’t have any impact. You can rescue every homeless animal you see, but they’ll still suffer with no one to care for them. That’s why volunteers are essential when it comes to changing the world!
3. Host a fundraiser
Ultimately, most organizations can accomplish very little if they don’t have the funds. Let’s take the volunteering example and turn it around — you can have 50 volunteers ready to pack and distribute meals, but first, you have to purchase the food, so there’s something to pack. That’s why fundraising is so important.
You’ve probably attended a fundraiser before, whether it was a bake sale, a silent auction, or a more formal event. You can absolutely host an event to fundraise for a specific cause, but that’s not the only way to meet your goal.
You can fundraise without even leaving your house by setting up a GoFundMe page or a birthday fundraiser on Facebook. You can get the community involved by asking a business to donate a portion of their sales on a specific day or sell T-shirts to raise money. There are thousands of different ways to change the world through fundraising when you get creative.
4. Donate individually
Fundraisers can make an enormous impact, and getting your community involved is a great way to change the world. However, you don’t have to organize a bake sale or make T-shirts to change the world. One person has the power to make a difference!
Giving an individual gift is one of the easiest and most effective ways to make a global impact. Maybe you’d love to help at a refugee center in Ukraine, but you have no way to get there physically. Maybe your schedule doesn’t allow you to host events or volunteer. Or maybe the Lord has put a specific need on your heart like cultural slavery or Christian persecution.
You can’t solve every issue on your own, but you can always help one person. Giving individually could look like buying a meal for someone in need, dropping off canned food at a food bank, or donating online. When you give through World Help, you can have a direct impact on someone living on the other side of the world without even leaving your home!
And the good news is it only takes $14 to change one life.
There’s no one way to change the world, and you can be a world changer from literally anywhere. Click the button below to learn more about how you can start making a difference around the globe right now.
