It’s hard to believe we’re already halfway through January — have you written your sponsored child a letter yet this year? If not, what are you waiting for?
Here are five ideas to get you started on your first letter of 2024:
1. Write about what you did during the holidays
Your sponsored child wants to hear all about your holiday season!
For most people, Christmas and New Year’s Eve are two of the most exciting holidays of the year. Did you spend time with family on Christmas? Stay up until midnight on New Year’s Eve? Even if you just stayed home with a good book, your sponsored child wants to hear about it!
Plus, you can ask them what they did to celebrate the holidays at school or with their families. Since they’re part of a different culture, their celebrations may look totally different from yours!
2. Share your plans for this year
What do you think 2024 will hold for you? Are you planning a vacation this summer or looking forward to seeing a new movie coming out this spring? Tell your sponsored child about what you’re planning to do this year!
You can also ask them what they’re most excited about this year! Maybe it’s summer break or the prospect of entering a new grade. Whatever it is, your sponsored child will have fun telling you all about it!
3. Share a Bible verse you’re focusing on this year
Sharing what God is teaching you is a great way to bond with your sponsored child
The beginning of a new year can also mark new beginnings in other places, too — like our spiritual goals and Bible reading. Is there a particular verse or chapter in God’s Word you want to study this year? Share what God is teaching you with your sponsored child!
Not only will this help you and your sponsored child bond, but it’ll also be a chance to help them grow spiritually and share about your faith.
4. Write about your New Year’s resolutions
Do you want to read your Bible more this year? Spend more time with family? Take some time off social media? Sharing some of your resolutions is a great way to start a conversation with your sponsored child.
Your sponsored child’s country may not emphasize New Year’s resolutions the same way we do, but you can still ask them about what they hope to accomplish this year or what some of their current goals are!
5. Write about your favorite memories from last year
You can also let your sponsored child know how your year went
If you haven’t already, you can tell your sponsored child about your most special memories from 2023!
Whether you traveled to a different country, completed your reading goal for the year, or reached a new milestone, your sponsored child will be excited to read about it. And in return, they can tell you about all the exciting things they did last year!
Once you finish your letter, seal it, add a stamp, and send it out! Make sure you send it to this address:

Your sponsored child will love reading your letter! If you want to make your letter even more exciting, you can even include some wintery stickers or a fun craft that fits in a standard-size envelope.
No matter what you write, your letter will bring a smile to your sponsored child’s face. Plus, it’ll be an enduring and special reminder of how much they’re loved!
