Sponsors transform the lives of children in need while forming lasting connections through letters, prayer, and ongoing support. But it’s an unforgettable moment when sponsors also get to meet their sponsored child in person.
That’s exactly what happened on a recent trip to Uganda.
World Help recently partnered with a group from Evangel Church in New Jersey to travel to Uganda. And here’s the truly incredible part — all eight members of the group had sponsored children there!
Everyone got to meet their sponsored child during the trip, many for the first time. The joy in the air was palpable as sponsors gathered children in their arms, gave them gifts, and exchanged warm greetings with their families.

For Carter Maweu, World Help’s Africa and Middle East Liaison and one of the trip leaders, it was more than just an emotional moment.
“I think it’s awesome when sponsors meet their children for the first time,” he said. “They’re not just a picture on the fridge. They’re a living human being on the other side.”

For Lamar and Vanessa, meeting their sponsored child Precious was truly a life-changing experience.

“Seeing her beautiful face and her beautiful smile just made me so happy,” Vanessa said. “There are no real words to describe it, but my heart is just so full. I’m so thankful.”
During the trip, Gloria also met her sponsored child. When she began sponsoring Agnes, Gloria poured her heart into ensuring her sponsored child had everything she needed for a bright future. So, she was overjoyed when she visited Agnes’ school. There, she witnessed how her support helped give Agnes all the resources she needed to thrive.

“Seeing each and every classroom and the teacher showing us exactly what they’re learning — for me, it was very impactful,” Gloria said.
For Corey and Tracee, seeing their sponsored child Miracle was just the beginning. They also saw firsthand how sponsorships like theirs transform a community.
That’s because Miracle was the first baby born in a medical clinic funded by World Help sponsors and supporters as part of the Community Transformation program. Since then, countless mothers and babies in the community have received lifesaving medical care through the clinic.
For Corey and Tracee, seeing their impact as sponsors firsthand was incredible!
“You can see how sponsorship has impacted not just one family, but an entire community,” Tracee said.
Many members of the group met their sponsored child for the first time while others were returning for the second or third time. Either way, witnessing the impact of sponsorship was a powerful experience — one that inspired everyone to keep transforming the lives of their sponsored children.
Maria saw the impact of sponsorship firsthand when she met her sponsored child Evans!
“Having had the opportunity to be here, I can tell you with certainty … that children are healthy and thriving as a result of sponsorship,” said Maria, the Evangel Church trip leader.
