For many of us, summer means a well-deserved break from school, from structured schedules, and from colder temperatures. With holidays like the Fourth of July, it is a season of celebration, anticipation, and cookouts.
As a child, some of my favorite memories come from the summer. The days were filled with long, uninterrupted hours of fun, road trips with my family, and of course, Vacation Bible School.
Summer is supposed to be a time of fun and relaxation. But for children living in India’s slums, this summer will be just another season of poverty and darkness, with no hope in sight.
These kids have no idea that a Savior loved them enough to come to earth and die on their behalf.
But you can help change that for one child by sending him to Vacation Bible School.
A summer of hope
Children who attend the three-day VBS program in India will learn about Jesus through fun songs and stories. They will enjoy food, games, and crafts while hearing a message that will change their lives forever … the message that God loves them.
Pastor Amit, whose name we’ve changed to protect his ministry, helped lead last year’s Vacation Bible School in northern India. Many children came and heard about Jesus for the first time. But what thrilled Pastor Amit the most was what happened next.
“Many children came to VBS and shared the Gospel to their parents,” Pastor Amit said. “A 10-year-old girl named Naro shared the Gospel after going back home. As a result, her mother started coming to the church every Sunday regularly.”
Each child leaves VBS with a special Bible workbook, allowing him to return home and share the hope of Jesus with friends and family.
