From bad to worse: Two sisters struggle to feed their children

The coronavirus has pushed people already living in poverty to the very brink of survival. More children are starving this year. More hospitals are overwhelmed without enough equipment. More people need food, clothing, and hygiene kits.

Esperancita and her sister are both single moms struggling to make ends meet in Nicaragua. Before the pandemic, they had at least worked out a way to feed their children. Esperancita would go to work cleaning houses while her sister stayed home to care for all of the kids.

People no longer wanted someone coming in their homes to clean and possibly bring the virus. Esperancita lost her job. Her income dried up … then her savings.

The day our partners in Nicaragua met Esperancita, her family had only a few vegetables left to eat. Then, the family would go hungry.
