Bibles build a bridge to reach refugees

You’ve probably seen them on the news — images of refugees packed on boats, making their way to Greece and Macedonia. The journey is rarely a safe one, and by the time families reach the camps they have already suffered immense trauma. Refugees come to Europe for a new life, but what they find is a crowded refugee camp and an uncertain future.

They are desperate for hope, and generous donors are providing just that.

Through Bibles for All, monthly donors, known as Ambassadors, help send Bibles into some of the farthest corners of the world. Over the course of a year, each Ambassador sends 300 copies of God’s Word over the course of a year to people in Bible deserts — places where Bibles are scarce or, in some cases, illegal.

These passionate world changers recently helped send Arabic Bibles into Greece and Macedonia, where those Scriptures became the bridge that helped share the Gospel with many refugees.

Since the beginning of the refugee crisis, our partners have been on the ground, helping to meet the most urgent needs of families fleeing violence.

These men and women do everything they can to serve the families they meet — driving them to hospitals, handing out supplies, and distributing food. But they found that sharing the Gospel wasn’t always easy.

“It’s very difficult to approach Muslims and speak to them about Jesus,” our partner shared. “But thank God, we now have the ability not only to speak to them about Jesus but also give them Arabic New Testaments.”

Because of generous donors, our partners have been able to give them out to refugee families they have helped. Most of the recipients are so grateful for the physical help they received, that they promise to cherish and read this gift of a Bible, too.

Through God’s Word, those refugees are discovering a source of eternal hope.

“It’s really lovely to see people with no Christian background or beliefs receiving the Word of God in their hands and reading it,” our partner said. “Some of the refugees who receive the Bible even kiss it! We are really thankful to God for giving us this opportunity to share the Gospel with Muslim refugee people in Greece.”

Although many refugees have heard about Jesus, they do not know the whole story. But as they read through the New Testament, they are introduced to a God who loves them and sacrificed everything to save them.

What a life-changing message!
