Angelee had big dreams for the future, but she couldn’t reach them without an education!
Angelee comes from the Ati tribe, a small indigenous group on the island of Panay in the Philippines. Isolated from most of society, Angelee lived without access to nutritious food, health care, or educational opportunities.
But Angelee still desired to learn. She dreamt of becoming a nurse so she could help the people of her community … but she knew she needed an education to make her dreams come true.
That’s when one of our child sponsorship partners opened a school to help children in Angelee’s community. Unsurprisingly, she jumped at the chance to go! Not only did Angelee finally get to attend school — she also became eligible for child sponsorship.
With the help of the sponsorship program, Angelee went to school and earned an education. She also had the chance to hear about Jesus and His love for her. Passionate about her future, she worked hard to keep good grades and even participated in after-school activities like the swim team!
Because of child sponsorship, Angelee’s dreams were within reach.

After years of hard work and dedication, Angelee graduated at the top of her class. Now, she’s studying for her nursing degree in college. She’s incredibly thankful for all the support and love the child sponsorship program gave her. Without help, she may have never had a chance to escape the cycle of poverty and accomplish her goals.
“We rejoice that on the day after graduation, Angelee and her fellow 12th-grade graduates, all enrolled in college,” our partner said. “It’s important to realize the impression this makes in the Philippines and to the world because it’s so unusual for Ati young people to graduate from high school, let alone enter college!”
