Russia is the largest country in the world and the ninth most populous. The country’s economy has taken a dramatic downturn in recent years because of widespread economic sanctions caused by the war. Rising prices are beginning to affect Russian civilians. Even before the war made things worse, many of the Russian people faced unemployment and extreme financial need.
Russia also faces an enormous health crisis, with over 1 million people living with HIV/AIDS. Drug and alcohol abuse is widespread, especially among the male population, leaving thousands of women and children neglected, abused, and without the means to survive.
