In addition to rising prices and high unemployment rates, Zimbabwe’s economy relies almost entirely on mining and agriculture. The country is still recovering from the rampant spread of HIV/AIDS in the 1990s. Even though its prevalence has dropped, 15 percent of the population is still infected. For rural communities with limited access to clean water, nutritious food, and adequate medical care, breaking the cycle of poverty is a distant dream.
