How Do You Measure Impact?

Vernon Brewer
Jan 26, 2012

When it comes to numbers and figures, sometimes the scope is just too wide to grasp, too cut and dry to internalize into something meaningful. How can we connect with the people behind the numbers?

Over the course of 20 years, God has allowed me to be involved in some of the most incredible opportunities to serve those in impoverished communities around the world. I’ve come to realize that each and every face tells a story about a life that has been changed.

In order for us to fully understand the significance of the impact being made, we must connect with people’s stories . . . stories like Ben’s from Uganda:

My name is Ben and I am in fourth grade. Before I came to the home, I lived with my grandmother in a small space, but there was not enough room for us. Soon, I came to live at the Destiny Village of Hope. Now I have my own bed, nice bed sheets and blankets, and a mosquito net. Thank you for building a good home for us.”

Isn’t it incredible how something like a mosquito net and a safe place to sleep can completely change someone’s life? We have the privilege of seeing these transformations take place every day.

That’s why World Help chooses to measure impact in numbers . . . of people . . . of lives that have been lifted by help and restored through hope.

Here’s a number to consider: 9 MILLIONThat’s a little more than the entire population of New York City. It’s also the number of lives that your gifts, support, and prayers have impacted through World Help in 2011.

Here are just a few major highlights of what has been accomplished with your help in the past year:

5.9 MILLION PEOPLE have benefitted from receiving life-saving food, aid, and supplies in the midst of drought, disaster, and poverty.
1.4 MILLION PEOPLE in spiritually oppressed countries have been given the Gospel for the very first time through the distribution of Bibles and New Testaments translated into their native languages.
115,000 MEN, WOMEN, AND CHILDREN will experience what it’s like to have access to clean, safe drinking water through our causelife water projects. This water is the catalyst for unprecedented growth, improvement, and sustainability in these communities.
1 MILLION PEOPLE have had their lives transformed by Christ through the establishment of over 13,000 churches around the globe, giving the Good News room to grow and thrive in the most spiritually hopeless of places.
3,050 NEW CHILD SPONSORSHIPS have helped convert tragedy into hope for children in impoverished communities from Guatemala to Nepal. Nutritious food, clean water, education, and the chance to experience the love of Christ is what makes sponsorship such a vital investment for future generations.

On behalf of the 9 million people who have hope today because of you, THANK YOU. Thank you for making a difference. Thank you for caring. Thank you for doing something with us that will outlive you and last for eternity.

It’s such an honor to partner with you as we continue to invest in the lives of those Jesus came to serve.

I can’t wait to see the impact we’ll make together in 2012!
