Svitlana and her elderly mother lived in eastern Ukraine until Russian forces began bombing their town. As a train operator, Svitlana organized groups to evacuate by train to safer areas.
She wanted to stay in her home, but she knew they also needed to evacuate so her mother could be safe. So they boarded the last train out of the station to western Ukraine.
Svitlana and her mother desperately needed hope for the future
Shortly after Svitlana and her mother moved, her mother suffered a stroke. Then, she discovered that the home they left behind had been destroyed — they had no home to return to. As circumstances worsened, Svitlana searched for something to give her comfort and determination to go on.
Then, she remembered hearing a preacher sharing the Gospel at the train station where she was helping people evacuate. His words had given her hope when she was afraid.
One night, she began thinking about everything that had happened to them, and even though she was scared, she knew God was with her.
“I then felt an incredible peace and warmth that I can’t even describe,” Svitlana said. “I know that God filled my heart with His presence.”
