It’s a saying we’ve all heard before — one you might have even said yourself. God can take a heartbreaking situation and use it for good. He creates a silver lining.
And that’s exactly what He did in Honduras through Digna.
Access to dental care keeps children healthy, happy, and confident in their smiles
Digna is her daughter’s biggest supporter. After graduating from dental school in Honduras, Digna’s daughter took a trip to the United States.
While she was away, Digna decided to surprise her by purchasing top-of-the-line dental equipment so she could open her own clinic when she came home.
But after much consideration, Digna’s daughter decided to move to the United States permanently. While Digna was sad that her daughter had moved away, she was proud of her for chasing after her dreams.
That said, she had no idea what to do with all the dental equipment she’d bought. She couldn’t return it, so it sat unused until God intervened.
One of our incredible sponsorship programs is located near Digna’s home. Boys and girls from Choluteca attend to receive academic tutoring, attend supplemental classes, enjoy nutritious meals, and more.
Since these children live in extreme poverty, their parents couldn’t afford to provide them with hygiene products like toothbrushes and toothpaste. Many of these kids had never seen a dentist.

And because they couldn’t take care of their teeth, many of the children wouldn’t smile. They were embarrassed by the state of their teeth. Our partner prayed for God to provide a way to give these children dental care … and that’s when they were introduced to Digna!
Moved by the sponsorship program, Digna offered to sell the equipment to our partner for $11,000 — only a fraction of what she initially paid.
While this was an incredible deal, there was still one problem … our partner didn’t have $11,000 to spend. Thankfully, World Help supporters stepped in to provide the funds!
Our partner brought the equipment and turned a former daycare room into a dental clinic. Once a week, a dentist comes to provide care to more than 500 children.

Recently, a group of World Help staff members and supporters went to Honduras and saw the impact of the dental clinic firsthand. Boys and girls in the sponsorship program were happy, healthy, and smiling wide!
The confidence and sense of dignity they gained through having clean teeth will carry over into all aspects of their lives. Because of the generosity of people like you, these children all felt the love and compassion of Jesus Christ. They feel encouraged and empowered to chase after their dreams with a new sense of purpose.
