Peru has an incredibly diverse ecosystem — from the snow-capped peaks of the Andes to the dense rainforests of the Amazon. The economy is growing rapidly, but dramatic income inequality remains a major problem. Government programs often neglect rural, mountainous communities … leaving the people there trapped in poverty.

The majority of these families lack access to medical care and nutritious food. School enrollment rates for children have improved, but the quality of education is still poor. Many boys and girls from impoverished communities drop out of school to help their families. Unfortunately, about one-third of all Peruvian children work long, unregulated hours at dangerous mining or construction sites
