The Children of the World choir has been having a blast this fall singing at churches and schools in nine states. They’ve also gotten to spend time exploring the cities they visit and having a little bit of good, old-fashioned fall fun!
So far, they’ve visited Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Ohio, North Carolina, Maryland, New Jersey, and New York … and they’ve sung and danced in front of almost 14,000 people!
All along the way, they’ve been spreading the message of child sponsorship and how it transforms boys’ and girls’ lives. They get so excited when they hear about a child who has been sponsored at one of their events.
Jessica and Andres, the choir leaders, said the kids come up to them after almost every event and ask the same thing — “How many sponsors?”
They were thrilled recently when 95 people signed up in a single day to become sponsors and provide children with the vital support they had desperately been waiting for.
Eight of the kids in the choir have been able to meet their own sponsors while on tour, which has been an added blessing.
“I feel so happy to have met my sponsor,” Josephine said. “I am thanking Jesus.”
And the choir members have also met a few other special supporters of the Children of the World team. While they were visiting New Jersey, the kids got to meet both Andres’ and Jessica’s parents. They were able to share a meal together, and the choir performed at the couple’s home church.
The choir has also had a lot of fun while on the road. In North Carolina, they went to a Science Center and the zoo.
Wang’s favorite part was seeing the fossils on display. “Seeing the dinosaur bones was so good,” he said. “They were so big!”
In Ohio they visited the Air Force museum and got to look inside some of our nation’s most historic aircrafts.
And while they were in Maryland, the children got to visit the beach, walk on the boardwalk, and play in the sand. They’ve also enjoyed plenty of fall activities like hiking, visiting farms, painting pumpkins, and playing in the leaves.
A major highlight for the choir was when they went to the Big Apple. All of the kids loved seeing the beautiful skyline, the Statue of Liberty, and the Brooklyn Bridge.
As winter approaches, the kids are anticipating the first snowfall and being able to play in it. While they got to see a little bit of snow that had fallen on the grass and trees in New York before they arrived , it wasn’t the same as making snow angels, catching snowflakes on their tongues, and going sledding.
“I’m so excited to touch the snow and hope to make a snowball,” Mark said. And as the children continue to travel across the country this winter, they’ll have plenty of opportunities to have fun in the snow.
“I hope to catch the snow and maybe taste it,” Grace said.
