Video: Meet Ice, my new little friend from Thailand

Ice is only 3 years old. She has her entire life ahead of her, and soon she’ll be dreaming about what she wants to be when she grows up.

When I first met Ice in Thailand and looked into her smiling face, I smiled, too. She is absolutely adorable, and she will instantly win you over. Ice was wearing a beautiful, bright dress representing where she is from — the hill tribes of Thailand. But the beautiful dress does not tell the full story.

The Thai hill tribes are remote, and the people there live in extreme poverty. It is that poverty that drives girls to do the unthinkable. They move to the city hoping to find work … and end up trapped in the sex industry. But while that may be the story for Ice’s mom, it does not have to be the story for Ice.

I met Ice at the preschool she now attends, a place where she’ll get to pursue big dreams.

Ice’s mother was only 16 when she had her, and Ice’s father isn’t around to help out financially. So, she stays with her grandparents while her mother works.

But unlike little girls here in the States, Ice doesn’t get to proudly tell her friends about how her mom is a nurse or a teacher or a chef. In fact, her mom won’t even tell her what she does for a living.

That’s because Ice’s mom is a sex worker.

She didn’t have the educational opportunities that Ice is now receiving, so a job in the sex industry is her only option. But that doesn’t have to be the case for Ice.

Ice and the other girls at her preschool are able to get a head start on their education, have access to healthy food, and experience the love of Jesus. They don’t have to worry about resorting to working in bars or on the streets when they grow up.

And it’s all thanks to sponsors just like you.

When you choose to rescue a little girl like Ice, your monthly gift of $35 will give her other options outside of the sex industry. You’ll be helping provide a girl in India or Thailand with essentials like a safe place to go, medical care, healthy food, and a quality education.

Will you rescue a little girl like Ice today?
