HURRICANE – Forrest Burdette Memorial United Methodist Church, 2848 Putnam Ave. in Hurricane, will present the Children of the World International Children’s Choir at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, as part of the choir’s 2017-18 tour. A church/community covered dish dinner at 6 p.m. will precede the concert.

The choir will also present a special afternoon concert for Conner Street Elementary School at 1 p.m. that day.

The choir is comprised of 14 children from Nepal, Uganda, Honduras and the Philippines. They come from just a handful of the children’s homes supported by World Help, a Christian humanitarian organization that exists to serve families in impoverished communities around the world, according to Dr. Ellis Conley, senior pastor at Forrest Burdette MUMC.

The choir began in 2000 out of a desire to share the untold story of millions of orphaned and disadvantaged children around the world. They have performed in such venues as Brooklyn Tabernacle and Disney World, and have also recorded with Michael Tate and Steven Curtis Chapman.

Through the mediums of song, dance, and creative media, the choir presents the staggering realities of poverty, but also the hope of change through advocacy, investment and compassion in action, according to Conley. The 2017-18 tour will focus on raising funds for refugees.
