Lemonade stands.
We all remember them well — an ambitious source of income for any child hoping to buy a new bike or the latest video game.
And even though we may not see them around as much anymore, they’re still effective for raising money. Let’s be honest, who doesn’t like a tall, cold glass of lemonade on a hot day?
That’s exactly what first-grader Dean thought when he set out to fundraise for a very special purpose.
Working Together to Change Lives
Dean’s class decided to sponsor a young girl in Thailand for their service project
It all started last November when Dean’s teacher announced his class’s Annual Service Project for the school year. They decided to sponsor a little girl named Yada through World Help.
Yada comes from an impoverished area of Thailand. Both of her parents work, but they don’t make enough money to meet their daughter’s needs or send her to school. Without an education, Yada’s future looked bleak. But with sponsorship, she had the opportunity to pursue her dreams.
Moved by Yada’s situation, Dean and his classmates began raising money for Yada by doing chores and other work around their homes. The money they could have earned for themselves would be used to give Yada a brighter future.
When the class brought their donations back to school, they had enough money to sponsor Yada through the summer! Encouraged by the outcome, the teachers planned to continue sponsoring Yada and continue the project into the next school year.
Making a Bigger Impact
Dean wanted to do more to help Yada and other children in Thailand
If that was the end of the story, it would already be an incredible picture of young world changers coming together to transform lives and demonstrate God’s love through sponsorship.
But the story isn’t finished. Dean wanted to do even more for children like Yada who live in poverty.
That’s when he decided to open his own lemonade and cookie stand! Through the help of his close family and friends, he sold glasses of lemonade and baked goods to raise money for Yada and other children in her sponsorship program.
The lemonade stand was a wild success! Dean raised over $1,200 to provide help and hope to Yada and other children in Thailand.
Thanks to the efforts of Dean and his class, children in Thailand have the resources they need to succeed!
“This is a beautiful picture of our communities all working together,” Dean’s teacher said.
Dean’s generous gift will help provide essentials like food, school supplies, and educational opportunities to Yada and other impoverished children in Thailand. His class’s donations will also give them the tools they need to break the cycle of poverty and pursue a better life.
A huge thank you to Dean and the rest of his first-grade class for transforming lives and making an eternal impact in Thailand! Your dedication to transforming lives at such a young age is truly inspiring, and we can’t wait to see how else God uses you in the future.
