Long-distance relationships can be hard — just ask a child sponsor!
And they’re even harder when you know the other person is in need. If you’re a sponsor, you understand. We often hear from advocates who feel bad for not helping their boys or girls even more. They want to send extra money or assist in some other way.
It’s important for you to know that sponsorship already provides for the needs of your child. Don’t worry that your support isn’t enough — you are doing amazing things! Because of you, a kid has plenty of food, clothing, supplies, and love headed his or her way every month. That’s the best gift you can give.
Our international partners have requested that we not accept extra cash gifts for individual children or their families. Gifts outside of sponsorship can cause rifts in a community or leave other children feeling jealous or left out.
But you can do something to help your sponsored child’s program or community.
By upgrading your monthly sponsorship amount by even $5 or $10, you can make an incredible difference in the lives of kids in your sponsored child’s area. Your additional gift might help a child with no sponsor receive the benefits of sponsorship while he or she waits. It might rescue a boy or girl on the verge of starvation. Or your increased giving might even benefit your sponsored child’s friends.
