We like to keep you updated about what your sponsored child and other kids in the program have been up to over the past year … all because of your compassionate giving. And even though the world is a little different now than it was a few weeks ago because of the coronavirus, we were able to get this report of how your child has been doing throughout the year and knew you would want to hear it.

Learning and growing

Your sponsored child got off to a great start at the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year because your support helped provide new textbooks and other vital school supplies. These materials played a crucial role in your child’s education, and all of the children in the program were so thankful to receive them.

Several of the older students recently took an important exam that tests how much they’ve learned during their time in high school. Our partners were excited to share that all of the students passed their exams. “It was with joy that we watched our children complete another mile in their education,” they said. In fact, two of the boys who recently passed have already locked down successful jobs.

What a powerful example of how your support can help lift a child out of poverty! “I pray that this will warm your heart as it does mine and encourage us to continue serving God amongst His children,” our partner said.

A bountiful harvest

The staff at the child sponsorship program makes sure your child receives a well-rounded education by participating in many extracurricular activities outside of the classroom. This year, one of the program’s major extracurricular project was planting a garden where the children could learn how to plant food and watch the progress of their hard work.

The children were excited when they finally got to go back to the garden and harvest the potatoes they had planted. They especially liked digging in the dirt! They’ve also grown corn, mustard plants, pumpkins, and beans. “They really enjoy working,” one of the staff members said. “And it enables them to learn the importance of hard work and value the food they have. We are thankful to God for the beautiful harvest.”

A Christmas packed with fun

The kids look forward to Christmas all year long, and this year’s celebration definitely didn’t disappoint. The boys and girls all gathered outside the children’s home and lined up to receive their special Christmas gift. They were eager to open up their colorful packages, but first paused for a few quick photos. Then it was finally time! The kids were thrilled when they opened their presents and found new socks and delicious candies.

Some of the kids put on their new socks right then and there. And, of course, the candies didn’t last long either. After opening gifts, the children and staff enjoyed a special Christmas meal of rice and other favorites. This is just one way your monthly support not only provides physical needs but also allows your sponsored child to enjoy special occasions and make memories that will last a lifetime.

Coping with coronavirus

Your continued support means so much to your sponsored child during this difficult and uncertain time caused by the coronavirus. All of the boys and girls are safe and have not been directly affected by the virus. However, they have seen a lot of daily changes similar to what we have seen in America. Schools were closed down in March, and everyone is advised to “social distance.”

During the lockdown, the children have stayed busy by doing some spring cleaning around the children’s home and working in their garden. They’ve even started planting some mango trees! In the evenings, the kids have enjoyed watching movies, playing games, and simply spending more time together. Please continue to keep your sponsored child in your prayers.
