88,000 families in Nicaragua are begging for food

Nicaragua is one of the poorest countries in Latin America. In fact, approximately one-third of its people live in poverty. Before the coronavirus pandemic, many were surviving on as little as $1 each day.

Now, they don’t even have that.

“The need for food relief was overwhelming even before the coronavirus crisis,” our Nicaragua partner said. “It has now reached a level that is unimaginable.”

Families in Nicaragua, Uganda, Guatemala, and around the world are struggling to survive during this pandemic. But today, you can help provide aid like emergency food, clean water, and hygiene kits for families who are suffering. And thanks to a matching gift from World Help Board members, your donation will DOUBLE up to $235,000. That means your gift will help rescue 2X as many people.

The coronavirus reached Nicaragua back in March, taking out thousands of jobs. Local businesses, shops, and markets all closed. People suddenly had no way to make or spend even that $1 per day to put food on the table.

“We receive many calls from people asking for help, asking that we help them to survive,” our Nicaraguan partner said.

Our Nicaraguan partners currently have requests for food aid from 88,000 families throughout the country … that’s 88,000 families without food.

People are begging for help. “We are going through a deadly situation,” one woman said.

Our partners have been doing everything they can to meet these needs. They’ve distributed many care packages — full of rice, beans, toilet paper, and more — in some of the most remote communities.

But they can’t keep up with the demand.

“The very minute they receive in the form of funds or material like a container of rice, it is distributed within days,” our Latin America director said.

Grocery prices have skyrocketed during the coronavirus pandemic, and with so many people out of work, they can’t afford to buy food. So, families are starving. Children aren’t receiving proper nutrition. And eventually, their weak immune systems won’t be able to fight off the virus should they come in contact with it.

But today, you can step in for someone before it gets to that potentially deadly point. Thanks to the matching gift, every $8 you give will DOUBLE to help rescue two people struggling to survive during this pandemic.

You’ll help provide essentials like food, clean water, medical care, hygiene kits, and more.

In addition, you’ll also help erase the budget shortfall we’re now facing because the coronavirus has canceled so many fundraising events. Erasing this shortfall is vital to making sure relief programs around the world can keep their doors open and keep serving people in need. With your donation, you’ll play an essential part in that.

Your generosity will bring incredible hope to families who are feeling hopeless … in places like Nicaragua and around the world.
