On the ground in Uganda: Families still in crisis

It’s been so good to be back on the ground in Africa … really to travel internationally anywhere and visit our partners after a year and a half of travel restrictions.

It hasn’t been easy. We’ve had to jump through hoops and go through countless rounds of coronavirus testing, not only for our own health and safety but for the health and safety of those we serve as well. But it’s been so worth it to see the faces of these precious children again and to see firsthand how your generosity is helping people in need.

Many families are still overwhelmed by this pandemic. There are few jobs and little food available, which is why your gifts are so important.

Even though I knew developing countries are still in the heart of the battle against the coronavirus, I wasn’t quite prepared for what I’ve seen. Parents are out of work and barely making ends meet. Children are starving.

And it looks like the situation may be about to get worse.

Right after we arrived in Uganda, the government announced that the country would soon be going under another complete lockdown with schools and many businesses closing again.

That means fewer jobs … fewer opportunities to get food … and more hunger.
