Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church

Donations and support have been pouring in for those suffering at the hands of ISIS. We want to continue to share hope for Iraqi and Syrian refugees—especially Christians undergoing horrific persecution.

We’re beginning to see how God has already aligned the next steps in this process.

November 2 is the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church—and thousands of church bodies will be uniting in prayer for our brothers and sisters around the world who are suffering greatly for their faith. We want our network of supporters to be a part of this global movement—a day that we believe has the power to make history.

But we need your help in getting the world out. World Help has compiled resources to share with North American churches in preparation for the day of prayer. This month, we’re asking you to do two things:

  1. Share the stories and resources we’ve assembled here to raise awareness for the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church.
  2. Invite your readers to come before the throne on November 2 to intercede for the global persecuted church.

This is a critical time of intercession for the persecuted church, especially in the Middle East. World Help President Vernon Brewer painted a sobering picture for us recently:

“The very future of Christianity in Iraq and Syria is at stake right now. Over the past 10 years, the number of Christians in Iraq has dwindled from 1.5 million to less than 400,000.

In a matter of hours, ISIS controlled villages, including Mosul (the ancient city of Ninevah), were emptied of almost all Christians under the threat of death.

There were once 60,000-100,000 Christians living in Mosul . . . today there are thought to be a handful. And those who remain will likely be executed in the coming days.”

When the chaos rages out of control and innocent lives are suffering the unthinkable . . . our prayers are the most important gift we can give now. Imagine a chorus of millions of voices lifted up on behalf of our brothers and sisters. The comfort and peace we can share is incredible.

World Help is praying that as we unite in one spirit for persecuted believers, many individuals around the world will be moved to compassionate action.

Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering (Hebrews 13:3).

Here are the links, images, videos, and resources you will need to blog this month. Just to note—because our day of action is November 2, the following month’s theme will be delayed slightly, but you can expect it to hit your inbox by November 3.

Thank you for being a part of this ground-shaking movement. We are praying that God gives you clarity, boldness, and passion as you advocate this month.
