Gilmore Electric shines a light in the darkest of places

Gilmore Electric Co. is committed to shining the light of Jesus in their home state of Florida and around the world.

Founded in 1941, the industrial electric company remains a reflection of the family that created it and continues to focus on exhibiting quality and integrity in everything they do.

Danny Loveland is the fourth generation in his family to own and run the company his great-grandfather, Robert Gilmore, started over 75 years ago — and it’s the influence of those who came before him that has inspired him to use Gilmore Electric to help change the world.

You see, impacting lives across the globe kind of runs in the family.

“I got involved with World Help because my mom and dad got involved with World Help and they wouldn’t stop talking about it,” Danny said, laughing.

His parents are David and Carol Loveland, the couple who passionately raised the funds for Kelly’s House in Guatemala after the death of their daughter. You can read more about their story here and here. Raising support for this beautiful home for special-needs children gave the Lovelands a way to process their grief and turn their sorrow into something that saved lives — and it opened Danny’s eyes to the needs around the world.

“My first mission trip was for the dedication of Kelly’s House,” Danny said. “After hearing about World Help for so long, I started to contribute financially, but when I went to Guatemala for the first time, that’s when I fell hook, line, and sinker. I became way more involved.”

Seeing the needs in Guatemala changed the way Danny viewed his business. He has been the owner of Gilmore Electric for a year now, but he has been with the company for 25 years and has been a part of the leadership for quite some time. After returning from Guatemala, Danny began to think of ways his family’s business could change lives through World Help.

“I honestly don’t remember what started the conversation,” Danny said. “My brother-in-law and a good friend of mine run the business together, and we meet every Monday morning to have a Bible study and pray over the company for the week. One morning, we just decided that we wanted to do something to benefit the world through our company, so we came up with the idea that for every contract we got, we would donate money.”

The first thing the company did was sponsor children from Nepal, Guatemala, and Honduras. Child sponsorship is an incredible way to help rescue a child from poverty and impact a community, and after meeting children in Guatemala, David wanted to do whatever he could to help.

While many of World Help’s corporate partners focus directly on one need, Gilmore Electric has chosen to help wherever help is needed at the moment. Over the past several years, they have raised support for a clean-water well, and — after a powerful trip to Cuba — Danny convinced his team to begin supporting Cuban church planters.

“I didn’t know what to expect going to Cuba,” Danny said. “When we went to Guatemala, it was all about feeding the kids and helping the less fortunate. In Cuba, they at least had food to eat. But just to see how passionate they are about spreading the Gospel down there and how they have made it literally their life mission is so impressive to me. I thought, ‘I can help these guys spread the Gospel in Cuba.’”

And despite his company’s generosity, Danny says, “I have never missed the money. God just keeps providing tenfold and honestly, it’s one of the most exciting things we do at the company. We love when contracts come in because we know we get to impact another life! God’s taken care of us more than I could have ever imagined, and I would encourage people to see where He leads you.”

Gilmore Electric is following where God is leading, and they are passionate about bringing others along for the ride.

“After every contract, we send a thank you card to the contractor with Information about the project we’ve donated towards,” Danny said. “We want to spread the word and let them know how they have changed lives. And at our year-end Christmas party, we always take the time to tell the guys who work for us how much they have contributed to the company’s success and how their work has benefited people around the world. We want people to remember us not just for being a good electrical company, but as men of integrity.”

This passion is directly in line with the company’s personal verse: “For we aim at what is honorable not only in the Lord’s sight but also in the sight of man” (2 Corinthians 8:21, ESV).

Danny credits his father as the reason Gilmore Electric is so invested in impacting lives. Although David Loveland has passed away, his legacy lives on through his wife, his son, and through the company and the projects he poured his life into.

“I always say my dad led by example,” Danny said. “I think there’s no better way to show how to be involved in something other than being the most involved you can possibly be. Like I said, my dad just wouldn’t stop talking about World Help and about Guatemala. He would come back from trips with this unspeakable joy, and that’s what drove me. I trusted my dad, and I just followed his example. I would love for someone to say that about me one day.”
