Summer fun

Children in India enjoy a one-month summer break from school, and the holiday was packed with fun activities for your sponsored child. The girls in her program attended arts and crafts classes where they made pinwheels and sun catchers. They played games, spent time outdoors, and listened to stories. Several of the girls even took part in karate lessons and prepared for an upcoming tournament.

Toward the end of the break, the girls attended a two-day summer camp. They took part in group competitions, learned new songs, and bonded as friends.

But the favorite part of summer for many of the girls was a trip to a nearby amusement park. The girls spent the day on the big playground and enjoyed all the rides the park had to offer. They loved the water slide where they could cool off as they went flying down the slope into the water. In the evening, the girls had a special dinner together and got ice cream before going back home. 

New learning opportunities

As the school year drew closer, the girls prepared to go back to class. They each had their annual checkup, and the doctor said they are all fit, healthy, and growing.

Although school didn’t officially start until mid-June, the staff at your sponsored child’s program didn’t want the girls to miss out on the opportunity to learn about World Environment Day on June 5. They spent the day competing to see who could pick up the most trash in the community and planting 16 jarul trees on the campus of the children’s home. They are excited to watch the trees grow and bloom their beautiful, purple flowers.

Your sponsored child and all of the other girls are now back to their regular school routine and flourishing in their studies. Some of the older students are also receiving vocational training in sewing and learning how to make clothes, pillows, embroidered decorations, and more. These valuable skills will help them start a reliable career when they graduate from the program.
