Restored hope: Susy’s rescue story
Jan. 12, 2015, was a day of rejoicing for Roberto and Guadalupe. . . .
“Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me.” — Mark 9:37a
When a community lives in poverty, it’s the children who suffer most. The lack of food severely affects their growing bodies and can cause malnutrition, stunted growth, or even death.
Thank you for rescuing one vulnerable, starving child. You’re allowing him to grow up healthy and have a second chance at a better life … while also showing him the love of Jesus.
At 3 years old, most children are walking, talking, and playing with their friends. But when Karlita’s mother brought her to the Rescue Center, she couldn’t keep up with other children. She was so severely malnourished that she weighed only 17 pounds.
Karlita’s mother had tried to take good care of her daughter, but poverty stood in the way. Karlita and her family lived in a hut with a tin roof and a dirt floor. They didn’t have electricity or clean water, and they almost never had enough to eat. Karlita’s mother — desperate and out of options — knew her daughter would die if she didn’t get help soon.
But you stepped in and saved her life! Thanks to your support, Karlita received the medicine and nutrients needed to start her on the path to recovery.
After seven months at the Rescue Center, she gained enough weight to finally return home. And now, your generosity ensures she can come back for check ups, and follow-up care to make sure she remains healthy.
Thank you for giving Karlita a chance at a better future.
A little boy lay abandoned at a hospital in Haiti. His parents had left him without any identification, and the nurses didn’t know his name or age. He weighed only 16 pounds and was so dehydrated that his small body was going into shock.
He was immediately rushed to the Rescue Center where he could receive the specialized care he needed … and that’s where your love took over and rescued him from the brink of death.
At first, the doctors and nurses weren’t sure he would live. But they were sure of one thing: he needed a name. They decided to name him Daniel.
But now thus says the LORD, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.” — Isaiah 43:1
Because of you, Daniel received lifesaving medical care and vital nourishment. In just a few months, he had gained weight, learned to walk, and even started running! Daniel is no longer a nameless, abandoned boy dying in a hospital. He is now strong, healthy, and full of joy … thanks to your compassionate heart.
Your gift tells children like Daniel that you see and care about them. Thank you for giving them new hope, new health … and sometimes, even a new name.
You’ve already had an incredible impact in the lives of children and parents who would otherwise have no hope — and we can’t thank you enough!
You can give again and help save another life like Daniel’s or Karlita’s today.
